TROOP 806 SCAVENGER HUNT

By Jeremy Hasson and Adam Finkelman

On Tuesday, the scouts went on a rigorous and exhausting scavenger hunt as part of Camp Powhatan’s nightly activities. The main reason we went was the handsome prize that was promised to the winner. The scouts were given a list of around twenty items to search for that ranged from things like a milk crate, to a roll of toilet paper, and even a pair of the scout master’s underwear! Only 5 of the scouts were allowed to participate and we had a sixth as our cameraman (who was secretly on our team).

The team had 40 minutes to scramble around and find as many items as possible. One of our teammates purchased 2 items from the trading post for us. All in all, we ended up with around 17 items when time ran out, but two of them were not found to be “legit.” We sat and watched with wide eyes as the other teams counted and we gave a big sigh when two other teams tied for first with 18 items. So we shrugged it off and went for ice cream at the trading post restaurant.

We later found out that the winning team received 3 free ice cream cones each, but we didn’t need the calories anyways, and plus it’s cool enough up here in Virginia.

This is the Troop 806 Scavenging Team of 2009 Summer at Camp Powhatan. This group was tested and gave it their all. Even though they did not win they still enjoyed the time they had together. In simpler terms this team is lucky that winning is not everything.

The Scavenging Team began their hunt for the treasures. Unlike other teams the Troop 806 team discussed a plan of action before scavenging instead of running off into the distance. If you ask me, this was a wise choice.

Josh felt it was necessary to use our brick we found to break sticks while we made plans. No explanation necessary.

The Scavenging Team discussed who was going to retrieve which items. Though the team member’s hearts were broken, they knew that they had to split up if they wanted a chance to win.

There were good times.

 There were tough times.

Jeremy tries on the “silly hat” that turned out to not even be silly enough to count! We’ll let you be the judge.

Here’s an example of what they put us through…

The process was long and grueling but we had fun, and exhausted ourselves, and that’s all that counts.

And in the end even though we had lost the battle, we had a much sweeter victory at the trading post later that night.
