Houston Jewish Scout Retreat
All Jewish Scouts, (Girl Scouts of all ages, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Ventures) and their parents, brothers, sisters and friends are invited to join the fun for a weekend Kinus (Jewish Retreat) sponsored by the Sam Houston Area Council Jewish Committee on Scouting.
This is an opportunity for Jewish Scouts, leaders, and parents to meet and have an exciting weekend. The whole family is invited. There will be numerous and varied activities. Girl Scouts will participate in Girl Scout designed activities, sometimes with Cub or Boy Scouts and sometimes independently. Cantor Diane Dorf and Janice Rubin will lead the Friday and Saturday services and the Havdalah program. Activities include belt loops for Cubs, badges for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Religious award classes, canoeing, C.O.P.E. (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) course, and plenty of food. Cub Scouts may select to work on craft and Mitzvah Projects, games and Achievements, Maccabee and Aleph Workshops. Boy Scouts may work on the American Red Cross CPR and on various Merit Badges. Adults may elect American Red Cross CPR, Risk Management, Safe Swim Defense, Safety Begins with Leadership, and Webelos to Scout Transition. Food will be prepared and served by Kinus staff and will be kosher. Program details may be subject to change. Brothers and sisters of scouts will be encouraged to participate in activities.
The theme this year is "Israel at 60" with lots of activities revolving around contemporary Israeli culture.
Cost for all adults, Scouts, and siblings age 11 or older will be $40 (with a discount for paying early); Scouts and siblings 10 or less will be $25.
