Welcome to Troop 806 and the Boy Scouts!
The very first thing you will need, even before a uniform, is a copy of the Boy Scout Handbook. A good introduction to Scouting can be found on pages 1-17. If you have any questions, please call any of the Scoutmaster staff or one of the junior leaders or your Troop Guide.
It is also suggested that you get a loose-leaf notebook for Scouting materials.
Attendance Requirements
In Troop 806, you are required to attend 3/4 of the outdoor activities and 3/4 of Troop meetings. This is because you are a member of a patrol that works like a team.
If you have played baseball or football, you know how important it is that the entire team be there to play. Boy Scouts work the same way. Our attendance requirements should be considered only a minimum. The best patrols have members who are always there, rain or shine.
At meetings, your patrol will compete in various games against other patrols. On campouts, you will try to be the best patrol in the troop. You need to be there to be part of your patrol. Make sure your patrol can count on you!
Please call your patrol leader when you know you will have to miss a meeting or campout. Also call after to find out if there is anything you missed.
If you find that you are unable to meet the attendance requirement, you will not be eligible to receive awards. Further, your membership in Troop 806 will be subject to review by the Troop committee.
Camping and personal camping gear
Troop 806 has a campout nearly every month of the year, September through May. In July or August, we attend Boy Scout Camp for a week at Ben Delatour Boy Scout Camp in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado. Plan to be there! There is an optional Winter camp program that takes place between Christmas and New Years.
One of the most important things good campers know is what to take and how to pack. Whether you use a pack or duffel bag, always pack items inside other bags. This makes things easier to find. Items will also stay drier in rainy weather. Put clothing in one, toiletries with a small towel in another. Items like your flashlight, knife, insect repellant, etc. can be packed in another bag.
Your poncho and flashlight should be packed where they are easy to find.
Here is a list of the items you should have for every campout:
Backpack or Duffel bag as needed
Class B (Troop) T-shirt
Work clothes
Sleeping bag in stuff sack
Swim trunks (seasonal)

Uniform
Your uniform says that you are a Scout! Wear it with pride. The uniform not only identifies you as a Scout, but as a member of Troop 806. Many awards that you earn are worn on the uniform.
You are required to be in correct uniform at all times. New scouts have 1 month to purchase a uniform. There are several different uniform combinations worn. You are responsibile for knowing the correct "uniform of the day".
As a general but not hard and fast rule, the "full" uniform without the neckerchief is worn at troop meetings and to all other campouts and functions. Class-B uniforms are for hiking and work projects. Full dress ceremonial occasions like courts of honor and Scout Sabbath require the wearing of the troop neckerchief (provided by the troop when you earn the Scout rank).
Summer uniform is worn generally April through October. Winter uniform is worn
in other months.
Summer uniform:
Short-sleeve scout shirt
Scout shorts
Green web belt
Scout socks (green/red)
Sneakers or hiking boots
Scout cap (baseball style)
Neckerchief
Winter uniform:
Short-sleeve scout shirt
Long scout pants
Green web belt
Dark socks
Sneakers or hiking boots
Scout cap (baseball style)
Neckerchief
Class-B uniforms are the same as the full uniform from the waist down. A Scout T-shirt of any design or plain white T-shirt is the top. Troop T-shirts are usually required as part of the Class-B uniform. These are supplied by the troop when you join.
See the Scout Handbook for proper placement of patches.
Occasionally, we will hold a uniform inspection with special awards for Scouts or patrols with the highest score.
